- Never leave a burning candle, incense or palo santo unattended. Keep it away from children, pets and anything that can catch fire.
- Burn on a heat-resistant holder or plate that catches ash and embers, in a room with some fresh air.
- Loose incense and resins burn on charcoal: set the charcoal on a layer of sand in a heat-resistant bowl and handle it with tongs. Charcoal and holders stay hot long after the smoke fades, so let them cool completely before touching or emptying.
- If you have asthma or are sensitive to smoke, use incense and palo santo with care, in a well-ventilated space.
- Candles: trim the wick to about 1/4 inch before each lighting. On the first burn, let a candle burn about one hour for every inch of its diameter, and never more than four hours at a time.
- Store incense, herbs and resins sealed, in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight so the scent lasts.
- Stones: wipe with a soft, dry cloth. Each stone is unique in color and pattern.

Howlite Crystal — white stone with gray veining
Howlite is a gentle white stone with fine gray veining and a quiet presence, a favorite for meditation corners, bedside tables and calm spaces. Each piece is unique in size, color and pattern.
Look and feel
Howlite is a porous calcium borosilicate mineral. At 3.5 on the Mohs scale it is soft and delicate, which is why it is rarely used in jewelry unless stabilized. Handle it with care to prevent scratches or breakage.
In tradition
Howlite is named after Henry How, the Canadian geologist who described it in the 19th century, so it is a relatively recent addition to crystal lore. It is traditionally associated with the crown chakra (Sahasrara) and the third eye chakra (Ajna), and it is known in crystal lore as a stone of patience, calm and creative expression. In astrological tradition it is linked with Gemini, Virgo and Scorpio. Many artists and writers like to keep a piece on their desk as a meaningful object.
