Scent and character
Frankincense comes from the Boswellia tree. On charcoal the resin softens and releases a sweet, woody, balsamic smoke — warm, clear and quietly grounding. Many people enjoy it at the end of the day or alongside journaling, and the Anatolian sage stick adds a dry herbal note before or after.
In tradition
Few scents have a longer history. Frankincense was burned in temples of the ancient world as part of worship and ceremony, placed in Egyptian tombs, used in traditional Ayurvedic ritual, and in China it has been called fanhunxiang, the scent that recalls the spirit. Many practitioners burn sage in a smoke cleansing ritual first and then light frankincense. Today it remains a companion to prayer, meditation and intention-setting.

How to use
- Open a window or door to ventilate the room.
- Fill the ceramic holder with incense sand to insulate the heat.
- Hold a charcoal piece with tongs or tweezers, light it and set it on the sand.
- Once the charcoal turns white-hot, place a small amount of frankincense resin on top.
- Let the smoke fill the room as you settle into your ritual.
Burn in a well-ventilated room on a heat-proof surface. Never leave burning incense or charcoal unattended, and keep it away from children and pets. If you are sensitive to smoke, use sparingly. Use tongs; charcoal stays hot long after the smoke fades. Not recommended for people with asthma or other respiratory conditions.
