- Never leave a burning candle, incense or palo santo unattended. Keep it away from children, pets and anything that can catch fire.
- Burn on a heat-resistant holder or plate that catches ash and embers, in a room with some fresh air.
- Loose incense and resins burn on charcoal: set the charcoal on a layer of sand in a heat-resistant bowl and handle it with tongs. Charcoal and holders stay hot long after the smoke fades, so let them cool completely before touching or emptying.
- If you have asthma or are sensitive to smoke, use incense and palo santo with care, in a well-ventilated space.
- Candles: trim the wick to about 1/4 inch before each lighting. On the first burn, let a candle burn about one hour for every inch of its diameter, and never more than four hours at a time.
- Store incense, herbs and resins sealed, in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight so the scent lasts.
- Stones: wipe with a soft, dry cloth. Each stone is unique in color and pattern.

Frankincense is one of the oldest and most revered incenses in the world, burned for more than 5,000 years. It is the natural aromatic resin of the Boswellia tree, which grows in Asia and Africa, and you burn a few small pieces at a time on hot charcoal.
Scent and character
On charcoal the resin softens and releases a warm, resinous, balsamic smoke that feels deep and quietly grounding. Before incense sticks and cones existed, raw resin like this was the main form of incense.
In tradition
Frankincense was once so valuable that it was traded as a commodity more precious than gold. It was burned by priests and royalty in religious ceremonies, held in high regard in Ayurvedic tradition, placed in Egyptian tombs, and in China was called fanhunxiang, the scent that recalls the spirit. It is also traditionally used in smoke cleansing rituals. Today it remains a companion to prayer, meditation and moments of reflection.

How to use
- Place a heat-resistant bowl (ceramic or copper) on a stable surface.
- Light a piece of incense charcoal, holding it with tongs, and let it turn red-hot.
- Sprinkle a small amount of frankincense resin onto the charcoal.
- Let the rich aroma fill the room as part of your ritual or meditation, keeping it ventilated.
Burn in a well-ventilated room on a heat-proof surface. Never leave burning incense or charcoal unattended, and keep it away from children and pets. If you are sensitive to smoke, use sparingly. Use tongs; charcoal stays hot long after the smoke fades. Not recommended for people with asthma or other respiratory conditions. Not packaged for food use.
