- Never leave a burning candle, incense or palo santo unattended. Keep it away from children, pets and anything that can catch fire.
- Burn on a heat-resistant holder or plate that catches ash and embers, in a room with some fresh air.
- Loose incense and resins burn on charcoal: set the charcoal on a layer of sand in a heat-resistant bowl and handle it with tongs. Charcoal and holders stay hot long after the smoke fades, so let them cool completely before touching or emptying.
- If you have asthma or are sensitive to smoke, use incense and palo santo with care, in a well-ventilated space.
- Candles: trim the wick to about 1/4 inch before each lighting. On the first burn, let a candle burn about one hour for every inch of its diameter, and never more than four hours at a time.
- Store incense, herbs and resins sealed, in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight so the scent lasts.
- Stones: wipe with a soft, dry cloth. Each stone is unique in color and pattern.
Our products are made for ritual and atmosphere. They are not a substitute for medical care.

Description
Agarwood Wood Incense — oud, the resinous heartwood of Aquilaria
Agarwood, also known as oud, oudh or oud hindi, is one of the most treasured incense materials in history. It is the resinous heartwood of the Aquilaria tree, and you burn it in small pieces on a hot charcoal.
Scent and character
The aroma is rich, warm and slightly sweet, with a musky, woody depth. Agarwood’s aromatic resin forms in the heartwood only under particular natural conditions, which is why it is so sought after. Its layered, resinous character rewards slow, attentive enjoyment — a scent for reflective evenings and quiet moments.
In tradition
Agarwood has long been called the wood of the gods. It is burned as incense in Southeast Asia, the Middle East and India, where it has a place in religious ceremony, meditation practice and celebrations, and in many traditions it is used to mark a new beginning in a home. We share this as culture; many people simply light it to enjoy one of the world’s most distinctive fragrances.
What’s inside
- Agarwood (oud) incense wood, from the Aquilaria tree
- Incense charcoal and a heat-resistant burner are needed to burn it
How to use
- Place a piece of incense charcoal in a heat-resistant burner.
- Light the charcoal, holding it with tongs, and wait until it turns red-hot.
- Sprinkle a few small pieces of agarwood onto the charcoal.
- Let the aromatic smoke fill the room, and ventilate as needed.
Burn in a well-ventilated room on a heat-proof surface. Never leave burning incense or charcoal unattended, and keep it away from children and pets. If you are sensitive to smoke, use sparingly.
