Amazonite Crystal — natural blue-green feldspar
Amazonite is a blue-green variety of feldspar, a potassium aluminum silicate (K(AlSi3O8)). Its name comes from the Amazon River, although the stone is not found in the river itself. Each piece is natural and unique in shape, size and pattern.
Look and feel
Amazonite ranges from turquoise to teal, crossed with fine white striations, and it can be opaque to translucent. With a hardness of 6–6.5 on the Mohs scale it is durable, but it should still be handled with some care.
In tradition
Amazonite was used in ancient Egypt for jewelry, amulets and carvings, and ornaments of amazonite were found in Tutankhamun’s tomb. Greek and Roman legend linked it to the Amazon warriors, and it has been called a stone of truth, carried during negotiations and moments of self-expression. In crystal lore it is traditionally associated with the throat chakra (Vishuddha) and with communication, and also with the heart chakra (Anahata). In astrological tradition it is linked with Virgo, Aquarius and Aries.
